Asana:

The Yoga postures are called
'asanas'. The asanas have
evolved over the centuries and are
intended to exercise every system
of the body. Proper body alignment
and progression as one masters
the postures is essential for a
safe and effective practice.
Learning to hold each asana
without pain or agitation, while
keeping the breath and mind
steady is the goal every time one
practices.
"Asanas are not a series
of movements to be
practiced mechanically.
They have a logic which
must be internalized if
the posture is to be
practiced correctly."

-B.K.S. Iyengar
